St. Croix Orthopaedics Supports Stillwater's First Marathon Event

5/24/2009

STILLWATER, Minn., May 24, 2009--St. Croix Orthopaedics was pleased to be a supporting sponsor of the inaugural Anytime Fitness Stillwater Marathon on Sunday, May 24, 2009. The race course took runners through the St. Croix Valley and the city's historic neighborhoods and finished in Lowell Park near downtown.

Organizers say more than 2,000 runners from 35 states participated in the races, which also included a 12K, 20 mile and half-marathon. Stillwater native Peter Hoyem won the marathon in a time of 2:50:32.

In addition to sponsoring the marathon, St. Croix Orthopaedics physicians also volunteered their time in the medical aid stations along the race course and at the finish line.

Dr. Troy Vargas staffed the aid station at mile 14. "I was pleased to treat only minor injuries that were consistent with that stage of the race," he commented. Drs. Robert Knowlan and Robert Meisterling experienced the same types of injuries at miles 16 and 18. "The weather was beautiful and worked in our favor," explained Dr. Knowlan.

At the finish line medical tent, Drs. Andrea Saterbak, Nicholas Meyer and Steven Meletiou treated runners suffering from cramps, heat, and exhaustion. "Being a Stillwater native, I was thrilled to help with the first-ever Stillwater marathon," remarked Dr. Saterbak.

Drs.Glenn Ciegler, Nicholas Weiss, and Timothy Panek also volunteered at the medical aid stations.
